Each lesson (there are five) is set up to take approximately 1 hour - however, depending on how much your group likes to talk, it could easily run longer or as we have done, we eliminate certain questions and go with a set of pre-selected ones.... It's really up to your group. The DVD lesson from Ray is usually 30 minutes long - the whole format in "The Discovery Guide" is thorough and well thought out...make sure you have the Discovery Guide.

On the average, the earlier series run about twenty minutes with one or two a little longer. The later series are a little deeper in depth but should average 30 mins.

Question
Is this the same teaching series that is on my VHS tapes from 20 years ago?
I purchased the whole 4 set series 12 lessons on VHS years ago and love them. But the time for VHS is over. Are these DVD's the same or a new trip with new lessons? The pictures on the cover seem newer... of course the teaching is timeless

Hey Rick, this series (#11) is new material. I talked to Ray about it and he is really excited about the message that he is able to deliver in his latest releases (#11 & #12). All new stuff. I've also used "In The Dust of the Rabbi" - totally new and great! "Faith Lessons on the Early Church - Conquering the Gates of Hell" - super! and "With All Your Heart" - another excellent study - all of these are new. Make sure you get the Discovery Workbooks with the DVD set. They're reasonably priced and very helpful in applying the study beyond the dvd. The Teacher's guide has very little to offer (it comes with the DVD) and doesn't give you much to go on other than a "time-line" for an evening presentation.

From the series that I have reviewed, the material builds in depth. You can by the purchase the early series in DVD but the information, although great, Is basic compared to his later series.

This series contains the same lessons taught in the original VHS series (volumes 1-5). The DVDs have 7 additional volumes available (6-12).

Mammie, The DVD definitely is required and for each couple in your small group or individual you should purchase a Discovery Guide. Without these two parts (dvd & guide) you'll come up short on what the point and purpose of each lesson presents. The Discovery Guide not only gives you great discussion questions/maps etc... for what has been presented, but it also gives a weekly study (day by day individual study - both scriptural and real life application - to be done by the couple or individual on their own time).

The minimum you would need for a small group would be the DVD, the leader's guide and 1 discovery guide. Additional discovery guides can be purchased if you would like each student to have their own. View the sample pages from the leader's guide, which comes with the DVD, to see how the discovery guide is used.
