Publisher's Description

Their elusive enemies took everything. Now they want more.

Crossroads Crisis Center owner Benjamin Brandt was a content man—in his faith, his work, and his family. Then in a flash, everything he loved was snatched away. His wife and son were murdered, and grief-stricken Ben lost faith. Determination to find their killers keeps him going, but after three years of dead ends and torment, his hope is dying too. Why did he survived?

Now, a mysterious woman appears at Crossroads seeking answers and help—a victim who eerily resembles Ben’s deceased wife, Susan. A woman robbed of her identity, her life, of everything except her faith—and Susan’s necklace.

The connections between the two women mount, exceeding coincidence, and to keep the truth hidden, someone is willing to kill. Finding out who and why turns Ben and the mystery woman’s situation from dangerous to deadly.  Their only hope for survival is to work together, trust each other, and face whatever they discover head on, no matter how painful. But will that be enough to save their lives and heal their tattered hearts?

Forget Me Not by Vicki Hinze is a suspenseful thriller in which mistaken identity takes on murderous consequences both for the protagonist and the characters surrounding her. A young woman in New Orleans is carjacked and assaulted, ultimately finding herself several hundred miles east in Seagrove Village, Florida. Taken to a women’s shelter called Crossroads Crisis Center, she is treated for her injuries but is unable to recall what happened to her. She meets Benjamin Brandt, owner of the shelter. He is appalled that Susan looks exactly like his wife who had been murdered along with his baby boy three years ago. Their love journey begins together when they try to come to grips with their situation, and Susan tries to remember who she really is. A crime mob, part of a terrorist organization called NINA and involving the mayor of Seagrove Village, is after Susan for a beach house that she owns, to be used as a staging ground for their activities. Susan slowly regains her memories, and becomes Kelly Jean Walker, an heiress to a vast fortune. She figures out that her real father and uncle had been part of the terrorist group. After several murders and bombings, the story finishes at the beach house in a fiery ending.

This book is full of twists and turns. The plot is so complicated that one may wonder how the author can keep the story straight. Because there are so many loose ends to keep track, it was difficult to get through it. There are no direct biblical references, although the main character is constantly praying to God and leaning on her faith to keep going through her tumultuous trek. She wants a deeper relationship with the other protagonist, Benjamin Brandt, but he has lost his faith completely since the murder of his family. This bothers her. It is resolved at the end of the book, but the inclusion of faith and prayer seem thrown in and do not have a link to the plot.

Although well-written, the Christian reader may not enjoy it because it does not address religious issues. It might be a good book for the main-stream reader who likes complicated plots and lots of characters. – Anita Tiemeyer, www.ChristianBookPreviews.com

Publisher's Weekly

Author of more than 20 novels of romance and suspense and three works of nonfiction, Hinze has written a masterful, complicated tale of suspense that gains momentum with each turn of a page. Her writing flows surely, moving from one character to the next, one setting to another, with readers keeping the swift pace. . Benjamin Brandt, owner of the Crossroads Crisis Center, hasn’t set foot in the center since his wife and son were murdered a few years earlier. Then Susan comes to the center, beaten and battered, suffering a case of amnesia, and also bearing a close resemblance to Benjamin’s deceased wife, also named Susan, and wearing the dead woman’s cross necklace. The two clash at first, but even as murders occur around them, the tension between them relaxes. Still, there is a mystery to be solved involving Susan’s identity and a past that must be reckoned with before either can move ahead. Hinze’s plot may have readers puzzling over how this tangled tale will ever resolve itself, but that underestimates the author’s talent for transforming the unlikely into something beautiful. (Mar.) "[Hinze] keeps the pace brisk and the tension high. Don’t start reading too late at night—you may see 2 a.m."
—Crosswalk.com

"Excellent characterization and a compelling plot draw the reader in and never lets go. Perhaps most importantly, the novel addresses the universal question of the purpose of pain and the importance of faith when all hope seems lost. Evil is unapologetically painted black and bold, making the redemptive power of Christ seem all that much more powerful. Deadly Ties is absolutely magnificent."
