Yes, you do need the teaching manual in my opinion. It does review what my son learned in K while introducing new concepts. Hope that helps!

From my experience, no, the teacher's manuals are not REQUIRED to teach first grade math, but they do give you a lot of ideas for activities to help your student learn. I am not a "trained" teacher, but home school my two girls. I remember thinking, "it's first grade math...I think I can grade it without an answer key." But, because the price difference wasn't that much higher, went ahead and bought the teacher's edition anyway. I am so glad that I did. I gave a schedule of when to use review worksheets, drills for the student to do, ideas for teaching concepts.....things that I wouldn't have known and without the manual, an aspect of learning that I would have missed. At that young age, there really needs to be more to math other than, "complete this workbook page and that's all." They need the drills and repetition.

As far as reviewing kindergarten....I'm not sure because I didn't use the kindergarten curriculum however, there didn't seem to be anything left out. It picked up right where we needed to be, the very most basic math.

    answer 3
The publisher recommends using the teacher's guides in conjunction with the student workbooks. The first grade books will review some content from the kindergarten texts. To determine whether your child is ready for grade 1, we recommend using this placement exam: http://g.christianbook.com/netstora...
