Author/Artist Review

Tell us a little about yourself.  I am a certified special educator who has been involved in home education circles for about 13 years now. I have taught my own children for the past nine years, and find I love it more each year. I love books, animals, research and teaching - especially teens. I have a wonderful family that consists of four great children and a terrific husband, as well as a variety of pets.

What was your motivation behind this project?  God. I started this book as a way to preview my responses to some uninformed questions and comments directed towards homeschooling, and my "file" of answers grew quickly. They seemed just to flow from within me. Then, after letting it go for several months, it was clear that God was directing me to finish it. So, I began working every spare minute (and some minutes that I couldn't really spare) to research my answers and finish it, and this was the result.

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  I hope and pray that current and future homeschool parents will be encouraged in their homeschooling journeys. I also have a desire to help parents communicate with their non-homeschooling friends and family members about homeschooling.

Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists?  I love to read. My favorite books are those that answer questions I have or encourage me to be a better person, so that's the type of book I wrote - one that answers questions and encourages.

Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know:  I know what it's like to have to answer lots of questions from skeptical observers of home education. My primary and original purpose in writing So - WHY Do You Homeschool? was to help homeschooling parents answer those questions, and to provide a resource for those who don't usually read homeschool literature. I hope this book finds its way into the hands of the skeptics in your lives and helps them to understand, at least a little, why, in fact, you do homeschool.
