Publisher's Description

When home–management expert and best–selling author Emilie Barnes opened her heart in the devotionals Fill My Cup, Lord (more than 113,000 copies sold) and Help Me Trust You, Lord, readers responded to her message of experiencing God’s healing touch in her life.

Now Emilie writes about the health challenges she has faced in recent years, broken family relationships and the process of healing, and God’s unfailing peace and loving presence in the midst of darkness. As women lift their prayers to the Lord and ask Him to fill them with hope, they will grow in their walk with Him like never before and be able to offer the gift of encouragement to someone who needs it just as much as they do.

I Need Your Strength Lord, formerly released under the title A Cup of Hope, is Emilie Barnes’ collection of inspirational thoughts and quotes for those with pressing circumstances.
Emilie Barnes, cancer survivor, author of 60 books, writes with such gentle sincerity it is hard to come away from her pages without being refreshed. Barnes speaks with the wisdom of one who has learned her lessons well. She writes with sensitivity and the knowledge of having been there. She quotes Scripture, often in stand-alone passages for readers to contemplate. Interspersed throughout are “Hopeful Hints,” little ideas for helping readers hope again; one encourages readers to commit a random act of kindness.
Consider this passage: “Have you ever thought that crying and complaining could be an act of hope? In this era of ‘positive thinking,’ I think we sometimes lose track of that basic truth. Yes, a positive attitude is important. Yes, we should try to look on the bright side. Yes, we’ll feel more cheerful if we act more cheerful. But sometimes the only truthful reaction to what is happening in our lives is to cry out in pain or anger. And God is above all a God of truth—so he doesn’t want us to lock these honest reactions behind a wall of ‘positive’ cheer.”
A quick read that won’t intimidate, this book is refreshingly honest. Barnes truly knows the path that leads to God. I recommend it for readers dealing with chronic illness or those who find themselves in times of darkness. -- Suzanne Rae Deshchidn, Christian Book Previews.com
