Based on Bishop T.D. Jakes's novel and play, this unforgettable story of hope and redemption is truly inspirational. Woman Thou Art Loosed follows the life of Michelle Jordan (Kimberly Elise) who is raised in a home of disfunction and abuse. The years of mistreatment from her mother's (Loretta Devine) boyfriend result in Michelle's entanglement in a world of drugs, prostitution, and imprisonment. It is behind bars that Michelle finally receives the help she needs. It is the counseling from Bishop T.D. Jakes (as himself) that empowers Michelle to start on the road to healing. This inspiring film won both the 2004 Best Film Award (tied with another film) at the American Black Film Festival and the 2004 Best American Film at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival. 97 minutes. Close-Captioned. Rated R (for violence, sexual content, and drug use).
