Both. It's an extremely good trilogy. Spiritual truth is only hinted at, but the story itself is epic fantasy at its best.

It is written so that it will work for both age groups. The main character is a teen but the secondary characters are adults.

I'm 17, and I have read the first book in "The Staff and the Sword" series. I really, really liked it and I definitely want to read the rest of the series. Based on the first book, the series may have been written for teens (not sure) but I think that adults and teens both would enjoy the series.
