Two DVDs worth of material will give you quite a head-start learning American sign language! Over 600 signs are taught with memory devices to help you quickly recall different words. Each sign is reviewed twice. The first time, the sign is reviewed with the English word; the second time is a "flashcard review" where you are only shown the English word, and you must remember the sign. This DVD can be used on its own, but students can also purchase the sold-separately Sign Language for Everyone.

This product contains two DVDs, approximately 4 hours total.

Is the book necessary or very useful, I don't want to get it unless I really need it to go along with the DVD.

The book is helpful as a hardcopy reference to the signs, but is not necessary to successfully complete the program.

Question

Is this an ASL program

In order to give my daughter high school credit for ASL as a foreign language, the curricula has to clearly be ASL. I can't find anything in the book that states this is ASL, though there is a slight reference to ASL but it doesn't state the program is ASL. I would hate to use the program and find, in the end, that it isn't a full-fledged ASL curricula (even at a beginner level) and therefore have to deny her credit for all her work.

No, this book doesn't clearly state that it is ASL, though the concepts and alphabet appear to be similar.
