We're running on Windows 7 with no problems. You could do General Science with a third grader if they're VERY advanced in reading and science and you're prepared to be very hands on. But otherwise I'd recommend sticking with the units designed for the K-6th grade set. General Science is designed as a 7th-8th grade curriculum. That being said, my 6th grade sons are doing just fine with it.

This full-course CD-ROM includes the full text of the 2nd edition book. If you are only using the first edition text as a hardcopy reference, it shouldn't present too much trouble.

I'm sure you could manage to print the pages, but there are other multimedia components that will not be printable. I imagine it would take a lot of paper though. It might be cheaper to buy a used copy of the book or two as a companion vs. buying all that printer ink.
