It is proper to simply contact the makers of the movie and ask for permission to show it in your church. I think that most movie makers are happy to know that their movie is getting broader viewing. When you contact them, they will let you know what requirements they may have (such as permission to advertise or permission to charge a fee for viewing). If there is a statement at the front of the movie that indicates it is for home viewing, generally this can be taken to be mean "small group" setting (1-6 people in a home). Once you show movies in a public place such as a church or movie theatre, and your audience is now larger than a "family" you must get permissions from the the publisher. One phone call often is all that is needed. Don't be afraid of copyright laws, abide with them, and make the necessary calls.

answer 2
You should be able to play the DVD in church as long as you don't charge an admission fee or record it (if you were filming the service).
