Exposure by prolific author Brandilyn Collins is a unique novel that has a story within a story, and keeps the reader guessing until the end as the two plots come together in an original, creative way. It starts with columnist Kaycee Raye, who tries to convince the police that someone is stalking her, leaving pictures of a man who has been shot and left on a dark yellow floor. A little girl who is a close friend, Hannah Parksley, goes missing, and Kaycee is crazy with fear for herself and Hannah. The second plot involves a mobster, Nico Nicorelli, who is after a man, Martin Giordano, and his family following a seven-million-dollar bank heist. Martin is killed by Nico, and Martin’s wife Lorraine and four-year-old daughter Tammy must run for their lives to escape the killer. The two stories stay separate and are easy to follow to the very end where a logical combining of both tales is drawn.

This is a breathtaking, page-turning thriller that will be enjoyable to read by both men, women, and even teenagers. The characters are well-defined and developed. Kaycee’s obsessive paranoia is constant throughout the story. Lorraine’s fear of being caught by Nico is real. Although the novel is plot-driven, the reader with identify with the characters easily.

However, there is very little reference to God or Christian beliefs. There are no biblical quotes or any substantial discussion about Christ. This is the only drawback of an otherwise terrific book. It is recommended for a general audience rather than a specifically Christian one. – Anita Tiemeyer, www.ChristianBookPreviews.com

Author/Artist Review

Author: Brandilyn Collins

Tell us a little about yourself.  I'm known for writing my trademarked Seatbelt Suspense®--stories that are fast-paced from page one, feature three-dimensional characters, are full of twists, and include a faith thread woven naturally into the story. EXPOSURE is my 19th book.

What was your motivation behind this project?  I had a "blind" book contract to fill--and no idea for that book. Then one night I woke from a sound sleep with one thought blaring in my mind: a camera that takes its own pictures. And in a flash (pun intended) I saw a scene from what would become the climax of the book's first chapter. The scene and camera intrigued me. Then I had to figure out the rest of the story ...

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  EXPOSURE is about our fears. We all have fears of some kind. Bottom line, God is bigger than ANY fear. Will we allow him to help us overcome those fears in our lives that hold us back--or not?

How were you personally impacted by working on this project?  I got to use a few of my own fears in this book. Like Kaycee, I'm afraid of the dentist, heights, and confined spaces. It was fun using my own quirks for a protagonist.

Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know:  EXPOSURE is set in the small town in which I grew up, Wilmore, Kentucky. It was a lot of fun setting the book there, as many of my extended family still live in Wilmore. Of course, Mom was thrilled. As I say in my author's note at the end of the book, I made only one promise to her when I said I was setting my next story in her beloved Wilmore: "I may or may not blow up the town." As for the ending (the last chapter), I have to say I love it. And it wasn't my intended ending. I was writing toward a different (and not nearly as good) ending. Then one day I was driving along with my hsuband, not even thinking about the book I was writing. Out of nowhere a flash of that ending scene popped into my head. "Ahh!" I cried. "I just thought of a great ending!!" My husband is rather used to such creative outbursts. He simply nodded and smiled. I was thrilled. I knew this final twist would make the book. I went back through the chapters I'd written to weave in a few points here and there that would lead to that final chapter. I'll tell you--99% of the time writing a novel is simply hard work. But once in awhile when an epiphany hits--it's the greatest!
