I just took both my daughters together, ages 12 & 13. I am so glad I did! We had awesome conversations and we all bonded so much! I definitely recommend that siblings do it together. Your 16 year old may think some parts are a bit cheesy...but there is so much value to the lessons. Your husband won't regret taking both your sons!

My advise would be that your husband do it. My husband thinks that boys would be more open to talk about certain things without mom there, and my husband said he would feel uncomfortable after listening to the materials if he were there having the discussion with our daughter in a few years. We have decided that we will meet for the special dinner at the end of the weekend so I can also celebrate his commitment but he will go through the materials alone with my husband. I do know other people who have done it with both parents but for us, we have chosen to do it this way. Blessings.

It is suggested for 1 night, but I booked 2 nights at the hotel and I am so glad I did. It gave us more time to chat more in depth and I never felt rushed.

we started friday evening. we spent about 3 hours listening on friday after dinner and about 3 hours on saturday. we had alot of free time to have fun!

There schedule would have you begin Friday evening and would end on Saturday night (with breaks and activities of coarse).

I think ten is a great age for boys (I've taken my oldest three sons in their 10th summer). This catches them before the 6th grade.

With my oldest two son's I just asked them "So are girls as icky as the used to be?" I did this while we were by ourselves to avoid the embarrassment of having their siblings around.

In general this is targeted to tweens and early teens, and it's a helpful resource. You're right though --- if you've got tweens or older children that are more "sheltered" in their background, these issues could wait a bit longer. For mainstream tweens and early teens, this material deals with things they are hearing and seeing and thinking about already.

I have daughters but I think you could although if you could wait a little while longer and see if your husband will step up more in this area, I think it would be better. On my mother daughter weekend I came back feeling refreshed and closer to the Lord so it may even bless your hubby if you could get him to do it. I'll pray for you, that God helps you to make the right decision and that He helps you t follow through (you'll need that if you end up going-lol! Lots of blushing moments)!

This could be broken down to 5 sessions I think BUT I would not recommend it for a group. One, it does tell the how to's. My daughter cried when she heard that section. It was necessary and time but very private. Also, some thing that needed to be discussed between the mom/daughter were confidential and some children and parents wouldn't want others to hear it. Also, some of the topics are optional and need prescreened by the parent. It was a topic that could cause controversy (it's an issue that is not clear to everyone in the Bible). All through out this, the parent and child are discussing what is appropriate for their family....areas that are very different from family to family. I hope this helps. If I'm too vague, I'm try to keep my post "clean" so I don't alarm any readers!

My kit included an address from the author to purchase additional "passports" for the child. They seem helpful for organizing the discussion and activities, but the program could be completed without it.
