This is one DVD. It, however, is designed to be used with 5 unit workbooks that would make up a set. These parts are sold individually as well as in a set at various places. The workbooks really need the DVD. I found this out after purchasing the workbooks somewhere else. To get the total value you really need the whole set!

It starts with basic lines and simple shapes, then progresses to contour drawing, gesture drawing, space, proportion, measuring, drawing from memory, light and shading, tone and texture, ancient art (Egyptian, Greek, Renaissance - appreciation), and ends with how to evaluate your finished project. The DVD is designed to be used with 5 unit workbooks.

This 5-unit elective covers key elements of art, principles of design, and facts about art history. It will guide students, step by step, to illustrating the world around them. From simple lines to final details, students will learn how to draw things as they appear. It is designed to be simple enough for students in grades 3-5 to be able to comprehend. By the end of the program, students are expected to understand form, lighting, negative space, proportion, realism, shade, shadow, texture, etc, even if more practice is required for the students to fully master how to create with these details.

The DVDs do provide a wealth of information and there is plenty you can learn just from watching them. That being said, the workbooks provide an organized and practical format for practicing what is being taught in the videos. In addition to this, completion of the workbooks allows you to use the course for one semester of grammar school or middle school credit.
