I would say that for most teens and above it is appropriate. It faces issues that teens face in school with peer pressure and the desire to fit in as well as other issues.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "church-friendly". This movie does not go into detail about the suicide or love scenes. You get the picture without seeing the visual. They do a very good job of keeping it "clean". But they do hit on topics such as suicide, premarital sex, teen pregnancy, abortion, divorce, drugs, pastor's kids, acceptance, and probably many more. There is a lot to talk about with this movie. I would recommend this movie for 14+ because of all these topics. But just like any other movie, you have to be the judge for your own kids. There are younger kids that deal with these topics as well.

This is not the "church-friendly" version, but is the full length film. Although the "church-friendly" version shortens some of the scenes that contain disturbing images, sexuality and language, it does not eliminate them altogether and still carries a PG-13 rating, as does this version.
