Beyond The Code gives beginning readers experience reading original stories as well as thinking about what they have read. There are 7 illustrated stories in Book 2: Plum; The Camp Out; Greg Can't Sleep; Max; Good, Bad, or Best?; Stand up for Lemonade; and Lost in the City. Each story is preceded by introductory exercises on word families and vocabulary, and has follow-up questions that develop both comprehension and thinking skills. A final exercise in each section gives students the opportunity to complete an unfinished illustration with their own drawing. Beyond The Code can also be used independently to supplement any beginning reading program
