answer 1
I thoroughly enjoy my ESV study Bible and I am impressed by the quality of the translation and the textual notes and criticism. I have had my Bible knowledge greatly expanded by this Bible; it has helped me better understand the context of the scriptures and the true intent of the writers words. I think you will find it enlightening as well.

Yes. Keep plugging away. The articles in the back of the Bible will help give you the big picture of the whole Bible. Then as you read each book you can see where and how it fits into the big picture.

I'm older than you, but I'd like to share that I am thoroughly enjoying the ESV Study Bible. I still read my KJV and then I read the same passage and the notes in the ESV Study Bible. I find that I have sometimes mis-interpreted the KJV (and I was born in England), however, once I've compare the passages in both versions (I use RBC's 'Our Daily Bread' for my daily reading), I get a clear understanding. God Bless!

It will be perfect since the notes on bottom of page will help clarify info that would appear confusing. Also chart and maps help the visual learners as well.

Yes, anyone can read and appreciate this Study Bible. For Christmas 2009 we (my wife and I) bought one for my mother who was 87 t the time. She loves it!!
If you come across things you don't understand, either grab a dictionary as I have to do sometimes, or skip over it and continue. Come back to it later and reread it. If it still doesn't make sense, ask your Pastor.

I too have several translations of the Bible and use them to compare text to have a better understanding of the meaning. I think this would be a good text to have, if just for the pictures and maps. Plus, you get the cross-reference materials and another translation to have on hand. To me, it's a great value.

The ESV Study Bible is not too hard to understand. It is full of charts, maps, and articles dealing with pertinent info. that will help you to better understand the Bible. I particularly like the Christ centered articles in both the Old Testament and in the New Testament. If you spend time each day with this Bible, you will find your questions answered, but most of all you will know Christ to by your Savior.

My coworker loved it. She would not fancy herself an intellectual, just hungry for more learning.

I think you will enjoy it. In our Wednesday night couples class, my ESV Study Bible has been passed around on more than occasion so others could look at the illustrations. The cross reference system is another item that I have found useful when trying to follow a topic.
