Customer Questions & Answers for
Wiebe Carlson & Associates Primary Pattern Blocks Task Cards Set A: Grades K-2

Primary Pattern Blocks Task Cards provide directed activities for preschool, kindergarten, and first grade children, using pattern blocks. The children practice skills such as matching a block to an outline and fitting blocks together. "Bonus" questions on each card call on the children to use their imagination and creativity, imagining what the design could be, completeing a pattern, or adding on to a design. Children love pattern blocks and they should have some time for free play before being given directed activities.

The task cards may be used in a small group with some guidance from an older child or an dult. The questions on each card are optional "bonus" questions and should be read to the child after he has matched the blocks to the outlines. Cards 1-17 indicate which blocks should be used to cover the outlined design. On cards 18 and 19, children must find the blocks that will fit. On cards 20-22 only the outline of the whole design is given, so children must determine how all the blocks will fit it. The task cards give children improtant mathematical, geometric, and readiness experiences. And since children enjoy pattern blocks, motivation is built in.
