From the Preface: "With the possible exception of John 3:16, no Biblical text is more widely known or widely quoted than the Sermon on the Mount....Despite the fact that the Sermon on the Mount it such a familiar document, the text has often been misconstrued....I defend the view that a proper understanding of the text requires a transformation of the human spirit and that it cannot be read properly apart from an acknowledgement of our spiritual bankruptcy....I have attempted to demonstrate that the Sermon on the Mount is rooted in the perfection of God" and it is more focused on God than humanity.
