Publisher's Description

Gabby knows God is the God of second chances.

But can she give one to the man who betrayed her?

When she was thrown out of the penthouse she shared with her husband and their sons, Gabby didn’t know if she’d ever find a soft place to land. But after seeking refuge at the shelter where she works, extraordinary things happen as she is reintroduced to God.

From the ashes of her marriage comes the House of Hope—a safe haven for homeless moms and their children.

But now those ashes of her destroyed marriage are being stirred again. When her long-gone husband’s life hits rock bottom, he reappears and asks for one more chance. And Gabby faces what feels like an impossible choice. Take him back. Or keep moving forward without him. Toward someone new who hasn’t betrayed her.

Is God redeeming what Gabby thought was gone forever? Or is He leading her down a different path and giving her something—and someone—new?

Gabby Fairbanks, a woman working in full-time ministry while juggling her own personal difficulties, questions where her security lies in Neta Jackson's Who Is My Shelter? In this fourth book of the Yada Yada House of Hope series, the dream of opening the House of Hope for single homeless moms finally takes place. Gabby also takes refuge there as she struggles to rear her teen boys while separated from her husband, Philip. When Philips is brutally attacked for not repaying gambling debts, Gabby is unexpectedly asked to take care of him. With stresses piling, Gabby struggles to find patience to minister to the impoverished women of Manna House where she works. Juggling all of these situations, Gabby leans on her ever faithful friends for support and advice.

Gabby's life is sustained by the people around her. In ministry, friendship, and romance she discovers how testing it is to love with patience. After the attack, Gabby is forced to decide between her latest romantic interest, Lee, or taking care of Philip. But as Philip starts correcting wrongdoings and spending more time with his family, she wonders if her marriage can be salvaged. This situation, along with a difficult tenant and a stubborn bag lady, shows Gabby she must learn to forgive those who have hurt her before she can trust them again.

Only with the unconditional love and wisdom from her friends can Gabby gain the energy needed to face each new day with optimism. As Gabby weathers the storms in life, she realizes her security must only be found in Christ alone. He is the only one who can be her ever-protective shelter. In this season she clings to Psalm 91:1-2: "He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the Lord, 'My refuge and my fortress, My God, in whom I trust!'" (NASB).

Jackson does an excellent job of capturing authentic emotion in relationships. The characters deliberately show love to each other and exemplify relationships in the Christian community. The people and world Jackson creates are relatable and I found myself completely absorbed as I was processing, learning, feeling, and making decisions alongside Gabby. Since I haven't read the previous books in the series, I struggled at first to figure out the complex web of characters. But, regular readers of the Yada Yada series will be captured by new developments in their favorite characters. I enjoyed the honesty of this book and found the pages flipping faster than I expected. With the accurate portrayal of life in full time ministry coupled with dynamic relationships among characters, I give Who Is My Shelter? a high recommendation, especially for adult women. – Becky C.
