While you can get a lot out of the study without reading the book, you will miss a lot of detail. The book is an easy read and well worth the time. I love the book and would strongly recommend you read it if you are going through the study. You only have to read a chapter per week to go along with the DVD.

Yes as much of the information is in the book. The DVD is mainly just the authors talking to each other and sharing ideas on the material found in the book.

The participant's guide does ask that you read chapters of the book before each session, so it would be necessary to purchase the book to complete the study.
