Publisher's Description

Most Christians know life is supposed to go on, joyfully, in spite of difficult circumstances. But most lack a proven role model to follow.

But such a model exists in the apostle Paul. Chained to an uncertain future in a Roman jail, Paul nonetheless wrote words of encouragement and hope to his fellow believers. Not only did Paul not complain about his difficulties, he found reasons to rejoice in them—mainly, that the Gospel was being
spread as a result of his confinement.

Paul’s epistle to the Philippians is a treasure chest of spiritual insights about how to rejoice in the Lord regardless of circumstances; how to live as a citizen of heaven in a world weighed down by daily difficulties. Joy is possible. Paul lived it and reminded the Philippians many times over in his short letter.

Suitable for individual or group study, Philippians: To Live Is Christ is an eightweek study of Paul’s letter to the church at Philippi. Daily lessons and weekly reviews are supplemented by background information on Paul and Philippi, application questions, quotes from Christian authors and leaders, reflective prayers, and helpful marginal notes.

It is possible to live in this world without Christ. But, as Paul writes, to really live is Christ. Only He provides the reason and the strength to rejoice when life says the opposite.

Author Bio

As a young wife and mother, Nancy McGuirk was awakened to her need for a personal, daily relationship with Jesus Christ. That awakening led her to share a message with a small group of women that there is a deeper life to be found in Christ. The Women’s Community Bible Study of Atlanta that Nancy leads today comprises 500 women who meet weekly to study, pray, and grow in Christ. Satellite groups in other cities receive Nancy’s ministry via video and audio. (wcbsonline.org).

Nancy has also authored a number of study materials, including Rest Assured, a 90-day devotional for women, and My New Life in Christ, an eight-week Bible study for new and growing followers of Christ. She and her husband are the parents of four adult children and two grandchildren.

Endorsements

"'In this world of fiberglass I'm looking for a gem' Bob Dylan once sang. Here's a true gem in today's vast world of Christian literature. Don't miss it! For decades Nancy McGuirk has been one of Atlanta's premier Bible teachers having influenced thousands of lives for Christ. She combines the skills of a scholar and a pastor. In this book she handles the Philippians text carefully and conscientiously and at the same time with an unerring eye for its practical application. She beautifully expresses ways life can be different this very day-before noon. That's because Nancy lives each day reflectively before God. We're eavesdropping on a holy conversation. We are so much richer for it."
---Dr. Victor Pentz, Senior Pastor, Peachtree Presbyterian Church, Atlanta Ga

"Nancy McGuirk’s study of Philippians is one of the best bible studies I've ever done. It's a comprehensive, verse by verse study with excellent commentary, facts, quotes, and thought-provoking questions for application. I would recommend this study to anyone.
---Ruth Graham, daughter of Billy Graham

"Nancy McGuirk has written this study of Philippians with fresh biblical insight, and dynamic application content that intersects with the demands of real life. Drawing from 30 years experience as a speaker, sought-after communicator and leader of Atlanta's Women’s Community Bible Study, Nancy has written a wonderful book that is ideal for large groups or individual study."
---Rev. Bryan Dunagan, Senior Pastor of Highland Park Presbyterian Church,Dallas Texas

"I am leading my Sunday School class now through Nancy McGuirk's study on Philippians and the response has been terrific. She has done an excellent job in providing an in-depth study through stories (historic and personal) as well as theological definitions and quotes from famous Christians. Her thought-provoking questions made for wonderful life-application discussions in our class. I highly recommend this study to any church or small group."
---Rev Danny Philpot, former Pastor of Mt Pisgah Methodist Church Alpharetta Ga

"I have followed Nancy McGuirk as a Bible Study Teacher for several years and can say she is one of the best out there. As a Small Group Facilitator and Adult Sunday School teacher for over 20 years, I am constantly looking for good curriculum and Nancy never disappoints! I have just finished doing this Philippians: To Live Is Christ study with a small group and we all loved it. We also used the DVD package and that made facilitating the group so much easier (It is so much easier when you have a good DVD to accompany a good study, and that is soooo hard to find!) - each video is around 20 - 25 minutes and got our group ready to have great discussions - highly recommend! You will definitely walk away with a better understanding of Paul's "secret" to joy!"
---Margaret Young

"I've been in Bible Study for 20+ years and of all the studies I have done, this was my favorite study. We have a large group of women of all ages and in all stages of their faith journey. This author has a gift of being able to connect with all. She was able to present God's Word in a way that made it easy for me to understand how to apply His Word to my life. The videos were fabulous and I loved that they were only 20 minutes each. This left plenty of time for small group discussion. Also liked that day 5 of each week was a summary of the "take-aways" from each of the previous 4 days. GREAT STUDY!!
Cathy Thrasher

"With wisdom and a fresh perspective, Nancy McGuirk brings the Philippians epistle to life. Her knowledge of Scripture and Biblical history, woven together with her heart-warming experiences, shape a unique and transforming bible study. Paul's words "To live is Christ and to die is gain," have now taken on a rich, new meaning for me. McGuirk's study digs deeply into Paul's letter and gives one the sense of being in prison with Paul, sitting at his feet and hearing his words firsthand. I give my highest recommendations to this faith-changing study."
