Fans of the first book - and Hallmark's Hall of Fame movie - will be touched by this "story behind the story" featuring young George, who suffers the loss of his father and finds healing and courage through the blessing of a neighbor's dog. Jacketed hardcover.

This book would be great for a 3rd grade boy or girl. I have a grandson in 4th grade and I would like him to read it. I'm going to pass my copy of this book around to a lot of people. It is a great story.

It depends on the third grader. I would say it is appropriate to be read aloud by a parent. But be aware it had the serious issue of death of a parent. I would not just hand it to a third grader. But a fifth or sixth grader should be able to handle it. I plan to give it as a Christmas gift to a couple of teenagers.

Although there is nothing objectionable in this book, it is written at an adult reading level and does deal with some mature subject matter.
