It is based on KJV but some verses are from the NIV (shown in quotations)

Yes, this is based on the KJV version.
Some ESV and NIV scripture are included, but are noted as such. An excellent choice for new and seasoned, believers!

The book doesn't quote scripture but summarizes in plain english terminology, each of the books in the Bible. I would definitely say it is 'Based on' the KJV.
