When You Need A Miracle by Ann Spangler keeps you on the edge of your seat with its information, from an angel encouraging a little girl to eat her oatmeal happily, to the famous 17th century theologian Samuel Rutherford, as a boy, being rescued from a well by an angel; from a student nurse receiving help from an angel to rescue an injured man from a burning truck, to waking up in the middle of the night and hearing angels in your room discussing the chances of you making the correct moral decision.

And then there are the miracles: a little boy desperately allergic to fruit healed so immediately he can eat an apple; a radically sick mother told that her unborn baby would be deformed by her sickness refuses to abort and gives birth to a healthy, strong baby; a family member gives away $5 they can ill afford and next day receives $25 back.

But that is not all there is to this book. Ann Spangler has built a strong scriptural foundation for When You Need A Miracle. No man-designed angels appear. No miracles unwrought by God occur. No accounts that are contrary to Scripture are presented. In fact, a major portion of this book recounts biblical angelic appearances and miracles. Written in a devotional style, When You Need A Miracle starts by stating its aim as, ”. . . to refresh your faith in the God who met Moses in the desert . . . and to nourish your belief that he still speaks today” (p. 10). Each reflection is recounted with Scripture, an application to bring you closer to your Lord, and a sample prayer. The scriptural accounts are strategically placed throughout to draw your thoughts towards the God of angels and miracles, rather than leaving you ruminating only on them. Not all is sweetness and light. There is a segment on Satan and his angels, and another on times when no angel comes to the rescue. The miracle section includes a temporary miracle and having faith without receiving a miracle.

I found this book interesting and thought provoking. It is easy to read, and when read where others can see its title promotes inquiry, which can lead to witnessing. – Donna Eggett, www.ChristianBookPreviews.com
