The Names of God Bible is not the King James version. "God's Word" is a translation copyrighted in 1995. There are a number of well known and reputable persons who have endorsed the use of this Bible. Names you may know are Billy Graham, Larry Richards, Josh McDowell, and James Kennedy. This translation was made by God's Word to the Nations Mission Society to provide a Bible in English for English speaking populations.

The translators used a rigorous method which is described well in a section called "Preface" on pages xix to xxi. I believe the translation method was very similar to the method sued by the KJV translators, but coming almost 500 years later in history, the English servespeople today, matching our vocabularies and literary styles. For instance, today we mainly read the Bible silently to ourselves in a devotional or study situation. The KJV was made with formal reading outloud in mind. This particular edition of the God's Word translation is produced with the intention of teaching us the names of God that were there in the original to be translated and how that translation affects our reading. We become the translators.

According to the inner flap of the slip cover of the Bible, "God's Word Translation (GW) accurately translates the meaning of the original texts into clear, everyday language. Readable and reliable, GW is living, active, and life-changing."

There is more detail included in the preface. So yes, it is a translation, like KJV. I usually stick with NKJV Bibles myself, but I did enjoy reading the GW translation.

Here's an example: "God loved the world this way: He gave his only Son so that everyone who believes in him will not die but will have eternal life." John 3:16 (GW)

I use KJV as my main bible and I compare it to others, but this has lots of information you can use for studying that you won't get in a regular KJV.

This is from their website: Hope this helps you.

GOD'S WORD Translation (GW) accurately translates the meaning of the original texts into clear, everyday language. Readable and reliable, GW is living, active, and life-changing.

Readable and Reliable
GW is a translation of the Holy Bible, which is inspired by God and reveals his work of redemption. It leads us to know God and his guiding principles for living. "From your guiding principles I gain understanding," said the psalmist, adding, "your word is a lamp for my feet and a light for my path" (Ps. 119:104–5).

GW was translated by a committee of biblical scholars and English reviewers to ensure accurate, natural English that preserves the styles of the biblical writers.

The GW translation team weighed the various factors that affect readability as they produced the translation. The readability of GW is not an accident. It is the result of the team's careful use of readability principles.

God's Word is a translation. I find it useful when trying to understand a concept that may have been confusing in KJV English. But I also read other versions too when trying to understand certain passages. The Amplified Bible, New Living Translation, The English Standard Version, and Holman Christian Standard Bible are great parallels versions!
