Where is God when you need him? After struggling to fit into a new town and school, Sadie faces questions about her faith, family, and friendships, questioning all she has come to believe. Sadie's life is spinning out of control. Her friend moved away, her mom remains ill, and her dad wants to leave town. At least the play Sadie is helping produce appears to be going well. After all, she gets to create the sets with her art teacher's help. But even that falls apart when a flash flood destroys her teacher's home and art. How can she trust or even believe in a God who would allow all this? God isn't fair. With everything crumbling and her faith on the edge, Sadie must find strength in the God she's questioning in order to hold on in the midst of her struggles.

What illness does the mom have?
What illness does the mom have? Is it chronic (long-lasting, incurable)? Is it terminal (or have the possibility of being terminal)? Does the mom's health change for the better or for the worse or stay the same through the course of the book?
Do the other books in this series about this character also have the sideline story of the mom's illness? I have a very debilitating chronic, but not, terminal illness. My daughter has been feeling like her friends don't "get it" and feels isolated about it. A book with even a passing resemblance to our situation could be a help. One that is dealing with the possibility of death, or on the other extreme, one with a fast cure, would not help her feel understood. (though it might show a different perspective like being thankful it's not terminal.) Thank you so much for any answers you can give me on this.

Sadie's mom has Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, which is not fatal, but can be very debilitating. Throughout the story she does have some difficulty with managing the disease and certain treatments she is trying. It is weaved thoughout all of the books in the series and the stories frequently mention the ups and downs experienced with long term illnesses.
