Customer Questions & Answers for
Tyndale Entertainment Les Miserables - Focus on the Family Radio Theatre audiodrama on CD

Les Misirables has been called the most important novel of the 19th century. It's a tale of war and revolution, a touching love story, and a tale with some of the most memorable characters you'll find in any work of fiction. Most of all, it's a story about a desperate thief whose life is changed forever when a kind bishop, catching him in the act of stealing precious silver, forgives him. Accustomed to living only for himself, Jean Valjean becomes a kindhearted man who helps a dying woman, cares for her child as if she were his own...and puts his life on the line to help an innocent stranger.

Les Misirables tells of the triumph of good over evil, of love over hatred, and of mercy over the letter of the law. 169 Minutes. 3 CDs.

Listen to it yourself first. You know your child. I can't think of anything that would be bad, but some of the concepts are more mature, child labor, implied abuse, the good guys (inspector/police/law enforcement) acting unjustly.... For sure by age 9 or 10 kids are ready to begin to discuss some complex social problems... the CDs give you opportunity to guide them or let the child lead the discussion.

There are some mature themes (mention of prostitute, a man commits suicide, a shooting scene related to the French Revolution where people are killed including a child), so you may prefer to play it only for older kids.

answer 5
Depends on when you are ready to explain to your child what a prostitute is. Fantine is accused of being one, and the word is used, so be ready to explain.

Also, the death of some of the characters may be a little much for little ones to handle. My son is 10, and the death of Gavroche is still too intense for him to handle. (And I explained to him that a prostitute is someone who loves for money.)

answer 6
I think it would really depend on the child though I would think around 8 or 9 before you'd really get a lot out of it.
Again really depends on the child

Probably mature teens and above. It is pretty graphic in some areas and is not appropriate for young eyes and minds.
