As Mildred's stay at Roselands draws to a close, she is torn between her beloved home in frontier Indiana and her new found friends and family. She is now a beautiful young woman and must discourage the advances of two suitors, for she still loves Charlie Landreth.

Elsie, now reunited with her father adn recovered from a life threatening illness, travels with him on a voyage filled with danger to visit the Keiths in a rustic Pleasant Plains. After years of separation, Mildred and Charlie meet again and learn that the obstacle to their love has been removed and they are now free to marry. Recommended for ages 10 to 14.
