Health-Care Ethics: A Comprehensive Christian Resource
What is sure to become the definitive work in bioethics Health-Care Ethics: A Comprehensive Christian Resource is the first full theological-ethical treatment of medical ethics. Receiving his M.Div., M.P.H. from Yale University, and his Ph.D. from Emory University, author James Thobaben grounds his work in the historic tradition of the Evangelical faith which he argues is, and always has been, eminently concerned with ethics. He then constructs what he calls An Evangelical Christian Moral Epistemology and then builds his Health-Care Ethics on the base of this epistemology, and under the rubric of Evangelical Christian anthropology. In building, Thobaben provides a comprehensive existential understanding of human beings in their nature as spiritual and physical beings. But he also includes a dynamic and theological use and interpretation of Scripture in speaking to the most difficult issues in bioethics. In effect, Thobaben has constructed a theo-ethical paradigm in which Christians can use to develop and well-informed biomedical-ethic and leave simplistic and uniformed black and white approaches behind and truly engage the issues through an adequate and clear articulation of their theological beliefs in conversation with modern medical dilemmas and health care problems.
