Spelling Power is a multi-sensory, multi-level spelling customized program that will help your students master the rules of spelling in only 15 minutes a day! A 5 minute test starts off the day, which helps to review, check retention, and preview new words to study. For the next 5 minutes, you'll test misspelled words, and for the remaining 5 minutes, you'll test new words, picking up where you last left off. In only those 15 minutes, you'll be on your way to mastering the 5,000 most frequently used words, phonetic principles, and spelling rules! Glossary, Scope & Sequence, Verifying Research, and sections on dictionary and proofreading skills are also included. A Quick Start Seminar DVD has been added to this new fourth edition, along with a Teacher's Resource CD-ROM. The DVD contains the author introducing each element in the Spelling Power Program, followed by a real homeschool families completing each step. The CD-ROM contains forms used in the program, including printable skill-building activities, a searchable word list and even more helpful tools and hints. 330 pages, softcover. CD-ROM is not Mac-compatible.

Question
Do the lists/lessons concentrate on one phonetic group at a time or are there many phonics sounds and rules mixed in one daily list/lesson?
I find mixing the phonetic groups and rules confusing at younger grades and hope they are seperate in daily lists.

Question
Won't work on a Mac???
I was firmly convinced I should buy Spelling Power -it sounded perfect for my girls. However, I just saw that the CDROM is not compatible with my Mac. (!!!!!) I am quite bummed about this! Is the curriculum worth buying if I can't use the dvd?

Yes, you can still use this curriculum if you have a Mac computer. The CD-ROM that comes with your Spelling Power has three main sections. 1) Reproducible Forms 2) Searchable Word List, and 3) Spelling Power Digital Tutor.
1) The publisher will provide you with a convenient source for all of the Reproducible Forms section that comes on the CD-ROM. You will have to save the forms (once only) to your computer and then you have them for future use.
2) There is an alternate version of the Searchable word list for people with Macs. You can get this at the same time as you load your reproducible forms and masters.
3) The Digital Tutor does not work on a Mac and unfortunately never will. The Digital Tutor is not a major or integral part of the Spelling Power program. It does not replace the daily face-to-face testing that you do with your student(s). It is simply another drill activity that a student can do doing the 5-minute Discovery Activity section of the spelling day.

Do the reinforcement activities just reinforce memorization of the words or also reinforce the spelling rules and phonetic s?
