I think they would interest a mature 10 yr. old. I can't answer the "read the other books" part accurately because I have read them but I do believe that they are enticing enough to make one want to read more about Mitford.

answer 2
You do not have to have read the other books before these; they can stand alone and are quite charming as Christmas stories. Ten year olds might enjoy them, as they are short pieces. They would most likely want to reread them a few years later.

Any of Jan Karon's books that I have read would be appropriate for any age. I think these books stand alone, but if you read all of her books there is a certain connection.

They would be fine for a child, and no, you need not read the rest of the books to enjoy these. Personally, I recommend that you read the entire set, they are WONDERFUL!!! You and your daughter would enjoy them together :o)

I don't believe you need to have read the other books before you read these. Certainly could be used as read-aloud-with-an-adult with a 10 year old.
