Clearly Grace kept her child a secret because Gary was the father, and she didn't want her family to somehow find out that she had cheated on her husband--English or not. She also probably didn't want a battle over custody with Gary.

I thought the book explained this very well. You must understand the morals of her family and friends. They would have trouble understanding her marriage outside the brotherhood and because family is everything, giving up a child just isn't done. Grace kept her secret for so long because she feared rejection and shunning. As it turned out her fears were groundless and she caused herself unimaginable pain in keeping that secret.

Grace wasn’t proud that she’d gone English during her rumschpringe and her family doesn’t know anything about the time I spent living away from home.

Finally, someone who thinks the same as me. I feel she cheated on Wade and had suspicions she cheated on Cleon. Yes, I felt Grace (throughout the book) had flaunted from one man to the next and at some point had an affair. When she had encountered Gary, she hid the fact from Cleon, going out of her way to try to cover up and hide the fact she had met up with him(even though Cleon didn't know Gary!). This suspicious activity was going on constantly, therefore, I had reason to believe she was cheating on Cleon.

answer 2
Yes, Gertrude, I'm afraid that Grace cheated on both Wade and Cleon with Gary while married to either of them. This was never explicitly stated in the book, but there were definitely large hints throughout the book such as Grace's shifty behavior and her complete obsession with Gary, not to mention her keeping Gary's presence in the community a secret from Cleon for a long time. If a woman can hide the fact that she has a three-year-old daughter, she can easily hide a love affair.

answer 3
Gary is a vindictive, scorned ex-boyfriend with a score to settle. Grace is afraid of what he might say or do. No no cheating, just fear.

Roman didn't seem indifferent, he was. He truly didn't care what was happening to his house, family, and neighborhood. This may have been caused by depression/stress related issues involving Grace and her lovers, or, as you said, he was behind the attacks. In the book, it came to my attention that he never suffered from the attacks. So, I agree.
