Zondervan The Story, NIV: The Bible As One Continuous Story of God and His People

The "Greatest Story Ever Told" is more than just a cliché. God goes to great lengths to rescue lost and hurting people.

That is what The Story is all about—the story of the Bible, God’s great love affair with humanity.

Condensed into 31 accessible chapters, The Story sweeps you into the unfolding progression of Bible characters and events from Genesis to Revelation. Using the clear, accessible text of the NIV Bible, it allows the stories, poems, and teachings of the Bible to read like a novel.

And like any good story, The Story is filled with intrigue, drama, conflict, romance, and redemption—and this story’s true! From the foreword by Max Lucado and Randy Frazee:
"This book tells the grandest, most compelling story of all time: the story of a true God who loves his children, who established for them a way of salvation and provided a route to eternity. Each story in these 31 chapters reveals the God of grace—the God who speaks; the God who acts; the God who listens; the God whose love for his people culminated in his sacrifice of Jesus, his only Son, to atone for the sins of humanity."

Yes, This simplifies and makes it easier for the children to understand what it is trying to teach them about the bible. I have trouble keeping focus when I am reading something but
with this book, I didn't have that issue. I would purchase this book for all children.

Margaret,
I don't know about the younger end of your children's ministry, but I would definitely say from about 1st or 2nd grade on they shouldn't have a problem understanding the story. It is very simple and easy to understand. I had a young girl about 9 sit in on one of my lessons from this book, and she was able to understand and participate just as well as the older kids in the group that were there. I would definitely recommend this for your kids!
Sincerely,
Caitlyn

Question

Can I look up a specific scripture reference in The Story?

My homeschooled 9th grader is using a curriculum which requires extensive scripture reading. I think The Story would be helpful. My only question is this...if he is assigned to read Proverbs1-20, is there an index that would help him know what pages to read in The Story? Thank you for any experience and help you can offer.

Dorothy - Unfortunately the answer to question is "no". The Story is written like a novel and other than some notations at the bottom of the page, individual books, chapters and verses are not innumerated. But, it is a wonderful read and cross reference!

I have my son (also homeschooled) use the Jerusalem Bible. It is a great Bible for this type of work. I would suggest the study version of the Jerusalem Bible (available on this site).
Keep up the homeschooling...
