    Question

    Spelling and vocab

How are the spelling and vocab portions of this curriculum? Do we need to supplement with other curriculum or are spelling and vocab done weekly?

There are two vocabulary words presented in each lesson. If you do one lesson per day, that would be 10 words per week. You certainly could use these 10 words as your vocabulary and spelling lists. However, I have found that the vocabulary words are not quite challenging enough for our needs, nor do they cover them well in the lessons. We supplement with another vocabulary program.

For me, I thought I would need a separate vocab until I started using this. I found that it introduces two words per lesson (10 a week) and that it was more than complete as vocab. The reason I feel this way is because not only does it introduce these words but they keep reappearing and being reviewed which to me is more important than 20 vocab words that are introduced and never applied or used. So for Vocab, they learn the words and keep seeing the words from time to time, therefore more likely to retain the vocab. I REALLY like the way that simplies things for us. For spelling, I would say YES you need a different program. I didn't expect that Grammar & Writing would include spelling and it really does not. It's good at what it does which is GRAMMAR/WRITING and the VOCAB was a bonus for me.
