The new Robbie Seay Band record, Give Yourself Away, follows the strong showing of 2005s Better Days, in fact, proving that better days were ahead. The bands sound gets an aggressive punch up here, surely in part to working with producer Tedd T. (Mute Math, Delirious), while holding enough to its own roots rock trademark to be distinct and make traces of David Crowder Band (Song of
Hope) or Mute Math (Stay) seem minimal. These dozen songs offer straight rock (Starting Over), more atmospheric piano (Cant Go Back) and blazing worship (Shine Your Light in Us). The band accomplishes its cover of Beautiful Scandalous Night in a basic alt-rock fashion and has a catchy pop tune in New Day.
Robbie Seay Band creates more than standard worship within musical art here. Challenged to live life generously, the band pours that notion into the songs. A clear call to action to give to the worlds needy appears in Rise and
Go Outside, while the focus of Gods nature in songs like Eternal One also point to giving ones self up to God. Songs on second chances, tragedy and
natures beauty move beyond typical worship songs and become ways to celebrate God in the open spaces of the world.
